Road Legal Track Cars

The term "Dedicated Ring Toy" (DRT) refers to the many Nürburgring enthusiasts who have built road legal track cars which are only used for lapping the Nürburgring and ferrying the owner to dinner in the evening.

Each lap of the Nürburgring generates roughly the same amount of wear and tear on your car as 1,000 road miles. Components such as bushes, steering racks, tyres, brakes, suspension, cooling systems, engine mounts and exhaust mounts are vigorously punished throughout just one lap of enthusiastic driving. This wear and tear can very quickly run into thousands of euros in maintenance costs on modern sports cars and brings the cost per lap in real terms to over 80 euros. If you then add into the equation the cost of having an accident in the average €20,000 sports car, include the barrier repair bill which is unlikely to be less than €2000 and then think about the fact that your insurance company probably excludes the Nürburgring or public toll roads, then include your logistical problems of getting home! The whole affair of using your daily drive on the Nürburgring becomes too expensive for the majority of enthusiasts.

There are two ways around this problem:

  1. Rent a dedicated track car from us, see here
  2. Have your own DRT built for you to your specification by Auteg Motorsport.

DRT Building Service

We can build you a car from the shell up from either right or left hand drive. Auteg can also source you a German car and build it to TÜV specification so as if you are spot checked whilst using the ring you will have all the necessary paperwork to show the Police.

The type of car you choose, age, mileage and model are up to you and we are happy to advise you on the different running costs and handling characteristics that you can expect from your choice.

Here is a typical specification for a DRT BMW E36 328i 4 door:

  • Chassis seam welded, strengthened and repaired where necessary
  • Interior stripped, sound deadening removed, painted, fit strut braces
  • Bolt in or weld in cage fitted, fit Polly bushes, optional rear diff ratio
  • Fire equipment and safety cut offs fitted, ancillaries checked and serviced
  • Glass replaced with lighter plastic, optional air con and sunroof removed
  • Engine freshened up, rebuilt as required, head and fly wheel machined
  • Air intake and exhaust system modified still below db limit
  • Steering wheel and seats fitted, harnesses (optional rear individual seats)
  • Fit race wheel bearings, track tyres, up rate brakes.
  • Avo Nürburgring 3 way adjustable coil over suspension, remote reservoir
