Safety Check List

Here is some general advice before you drive on the Nurburgring:

  1. Make sure your car is insured for driving on the Nurburgring.
  2. Read and memorise the latest safety flyer supplied by the Nurburgring available where you buy your lap pass. Alternatively, watch the this nurburgring safety video
  3. Set your tyre pressures to the manufactures recommended highest speed pressure settings.
  4. Take all unnecessary luggage and loose objects out of the car.
  5. Keep your log book, MOT and Insurance in the car.
  6. Carry a good first aid kit, fire extinguisher, warning triangle, spare bulbs / fuse set and a high visibility day glow over jacket (all these things are German Law).
  7. Check you have sufficient 'meat' on your brake pads especially the front, if in doubt fit new pads and bleed in fresh brake fluid.
  8. Check that your car is not leaking any fluids (we advise that you service the car prior to your trip).
  9. Check that your wheel nuts are torqued up correctly.
  10. Put the Nurburgring emergency number (08000 302 112) in your mobile phone (also available from the flyer when you buy your lap pass).
  11. Remember it is German Law that you must stop if you are 'first on scene' at an accident: Park your car off of the 'crash line' i.e. a neutral place where it is unlikely another car skidding off the track will hit it. Call the emergency number (08000 302 112) for help and run back 200 meters before the accident to slow traffic down. Wave your arms vigorously.
  12. Always drive with your dipped head lights on.
  13. ONLY EVER OVERTAKE ON THE LEFT AND WHEN THE ROAD IS STRAIGHT, NEVER UNDERTAKE, NEVER OVERTAKE IN A CORNER.
  14. Do not tailgate bikers, allow them some space and only overtake them on the left ONCE they have indicated that they KNOW you are there.
  15. Look in your rear view mirror every 4 to 5 seconds and Always check it before you 'turn in' to a corner.
  16. Brake early and in a straight line before a corner, then release the brake just before you turn in, then gently and steadily apply the throttle as required.
  17. Observe the speed restrictions at Breidscheid and the approach to the Grüne Hölle.
  18. Remember: There is no such thing as "my last lap" of the ring the only prize to be won is leaving with you and your car in tact.
  19. Never Lap Time yourself as this is proven to lead to accidents, as you will be mentally inclined to push past slower traffic before they have seen you, which is one of the most common ways people crash at the ring.
